Congratulations are in order for the management and staff of Cedar Falls Care Home at 89 Bescot Road, Walsall. They have been awarded the prestigious certificate of distinction by Emplaw Solutions, the UK’s leading Safeguarding Specialists.
The judging panel took into account the views of residents and relatives when making their decision. Without exception, residents had nothing but praise for the staff and the owner, Jaqdip Takhar. Feeling safe was a common notion in resident comments but the one area of praise that particularly encouraged the granting of the award to Cedar Falls was the residents feeling of total freedom to make their own choices and to do what they wanted to do. Staff were also complimented for taking the time to find out about the individual interests of residents such as knitting, horse racing, football and animals. Staff and management then ensured they had the means to follow their individual interests. One resident had relatives abroad, so Cedar Falls purchased a tablet and taught her how to use it to communicate with them.
Families had total confidence that their relatives were safe, cared for and most importantly that they were happy. The general view was that the atmosphere of the home was more like a hotel than a traditional care home. There were no restrictions on visiting and residents continue to enjoy their life time interests with the staff always finding time to spend with them.
The head of this exceptional team is Jaqdip Takhar (Jack to residents), who staff and relatives consider to be a true inspiration. The high standard achieved by Cedar Falls was also recognised by the Care Quality Commission who made very complimentary comments regarding the kindness of staff and the professional leadership of the home.
